Gulliver’s: A last day to see it

Sat Jul 4 2026 (E: 2026 Jul 04)

Gulliver’s Restaurant is an English steakhouse in Irvine, California known for prime ribs.1 It was a popular meetup spot where you could find SCaLE and LayerOne attendees. Despite the active patronage, the property owner2 was not offering lease renewals to the restaurant operators.

Since I don’t visit Irvine often, this was going to be the last time I’ll see the building as-is. My recount of one of the menu items:

Beef ribs drenched in honey and herb based steak sauce. The slow-roasted meat comes apart by itself exposes a pink and tender inside.

As reservations were full, the staff were not able to accomodate the group. So we couldn’t order anything and mostly hung out in the parking lot until some guy invited us to the neighboring Chick-fil-A which we piled into.

Shameless pestering

Earlier this week, I printed out H.R 8470. It is an eight page house resolution introduced to the judiciary committee.34 Throughout the week, I passed around the packet of papers to >= 40 different people to varying responses.

I’ll take a note of it and read it later.

Oh this is good. It even addresses my problem with Flock cameras. I can see why you’re a fan.

It’s great but it’s not getting passed.

My representative suuucks. He’s so not going to vote for it.

I also just left the packet on random tables and watched passerbys catch notice and flip through.

I asked if I could take pictures of the restaurant, and they let me into the kitchen.

The chef also asked me to record a video of him slicing beef.5
